I hope this article may demonstrate why I believe full wedding coverage by your photographer is worth the investment. You have a long time to regret it if you make the wrong choice.
A Bride, her father and the wedding day.
A friend recently asked me why I get such a kick out of covering an entire wedding. I told her its as much to do with wanting to do a complete job as it is do with the friendship and relationship I build with couples in the lead up to their big day. I feel I have an obligation to the couples that have chosen me as their wedding photographer to give it my best on such an important day in their lives and capture it fully.
I can recall situations with weddings where very meaningful photos were captured on the spare of the moment and absolutely treasured by the couple.
One wedding comes to mind where the father of the Bride had travelled from overseas to walk his daughter down the aisle only to become violently ill the night before and unable to make it to the church and in fact had to be taken to hospital.
The Bride actually received the news while I was photographing her preparation and it was so sad to see a Bride crying for the wrong reasons on her wedding day. She courageously went through her ceremony and outside the church I asked if she still felt like doing her formal photos which I had arranged to do at a lovely location. The Bride (and wedding party for that matter) put on a brave face while we made some beautiful pictures under extenuating circumstances. We hadn't quite completed the formal photos and still had another location to get to when the Bride received a phone call to go to the hospital asap as her father had take a turn for the worse.

What a tragic set of circumstances for the couple. The wedding party left for the hospital and I headed to their wedding reception venue not knowing if they would even make it there. A couple of hours into the reception the wedding party arrived. The Bride’s father had recovered sufficiently for them to leave him in hospital and return to their wedding and the night progressed as scheduled and the couple relaxed into the evening’s festivities as best they could.
Nearing the end of the night some of the Bride’s family disappeared outside of the venue only to return cuddling their father who had apparently pleaded with hospital staff to allow him to see his daughter and their guests. So, pumped up on heavy painkillers, dad miraculously made a triumphant but slow entrance to the reception with his daughter racing to his side to help him in.

What a rollercoaster of emotions on a day already highly charged with emotion! I was there to capture every minute right till the end of the night and the couple couldn’t thank me enough for being there for them! There was nothing special about the photos I made of dads return, no special techniques or lighting, just capturing a moment, a most important moment on a special day!
When you start looking for a photographer for your Brisbane, Sunshine Coast or destination wedding it’s a good idea to think about how much of your day you’d like your photographer to capture. Some will say 8 hours is full wedding coverage but I can tell you I haven’t covered one wedding where I was booked to cover the couple’s entire wedding where I didn’t spend at least 10-12 hours and often more than this with some traditional weddings.
So think carefully about your day and although you may have to pay extra for complete wedding coverage by your photographer it will be worth every cent as the years pass by!
